Book Recommendations:

Are any of you reading any of these books...let me know so we can maybe start a book club or discussion/thread about them. We could get more out of these books if we read/discuss them together. So please comment and let me know which of these you have and which one you'd like to discuss first.

I was suppose to interview a handful of these authors but I got soooooo nervous, however I am going to try again. I'll keep you all posted.

Shelfari: Book reviews on your book blog

  1. Eons ago, I took a Psychology of Shyness class at a community college. Needless to say I am still shy but it was ineresting to learn more about it. The book that was used http://www.amazon.com/Shyness-What-Do-About/dp/0201550180/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1257574262&sr=8-9. I think being a shy black female is looked upon as an anomoly and almost the antithesis of being black. That's just something that I've come to realize more and more in recent years. The assumption is if you are not aggressive and loud, then you aren't really black.

  2. deevinej23, I agree with you. It is an oxymoron in our society to be a shy black woman. I wrote about this in one of my blogs. So in a way its great to be soft spoken b/c I dispell the stereotypes but on the other hand, my shyness is extreme. I think I'm naturally a soft spoken person and even when I have overcome my anxiety disorder, I think I'll still be soft spoken because that's just me. I'm glad you pointed this out. I hope you visit this blog again...often!!! Btw, I am ordering the book you mentioned in your comment.
